The Yellowwood Organic Red 2019

A Fireside Favourite - This rich, warming red pairs with cosy evenings alongside the fire.

Wine that tastes great — and is great for the earth. Made with grapes farmed without pesticides or artificial fertiliser, this bold organic blend of 39% Malbec, 29% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Shiraz, and 7% Petit Verdot is laden with flavours of pomegranate, cassis, cherry and spices. These are supported by fine tannins bolstered by 16 months of barrel maturation. Enjoy with mushroom risotto or a potjie (South African barbecue stew).

ORIGIN
Coastal region

TERROIR / SOIL
Deep, fertile decomposed granite with a high percentage of clay.

VINEYARD AND CLIMATE CONDITIONS
14 to 19-year-old trellised vines grown in conditions influenced by the cold Atlantic Ocean. Cold, wet winters and sunny, warm summers with long ripening seasons ensure optimal ripeness and concentrated, yet elegantly balanced wines.

WINEMAKING
Grapes are hand-picked at optimal ripeness. After a selection process to eliminate unwanted raisins or underripe berries, the fruit is crushed to stainless-steel tanks. A combination of natural and cultured yeast is used to ferment the grapes over 24 days. Free-run wine is barreled down for maturation in 35% new French oak and 75% second and third fill French oak barrels. After 16 months of ageing, the wines are tasted and blended.
