Spier Noble Song Shiraz 2018

"Fruity, rich and young in style, these wines are a welcome option for the conscious consumer or anyone with a sensitivity to sulphur."

NO ADDED SULPHUR, containing 0 mg/l of added SO2 per bottle.

This Shiraz is the whole song and dance! Made without the use of added sulphur, it is ideal for those who are sensitive to sulphites. The grapes for this wine come from 20-year-old vines based in Paarl that steal the show with a vividly fresh nose of spicy dark fruit and soft oak. Balanced and harmonious, enjoy it with a brie and avocado meat-free burger or spicy dishes.

Dark brooding flavours of mulberry, spicy plum and subtle vanilla notes lead to a medium to full bodied palate with smooth, velvety tannin. The wine will benefit from decanting.

Weathered shale and schist soils from the warm growing region of
Paarl allows for semi dry-land farming.

The grapes for this wine come from 20-year-old vines which were planted on a vertical trellis system to enable easy foliage management. This ensures a good balance of leaves and exposure to the sun, while still leaving enough shade that will allow for freshness to be retained. The vines are about 55 km from the cold Atlantic which allows for an above average diurnal range for fruit and colour development. Average annual rainfall is 450mm.

100% Shiraz grapes were harvested from selected vineyard blocks and cold-soaked for 2 to 3 days at 12°C. Alcoholic fermentation lasted for up to 14 days in stainless steel tanks; delicate extraction methods were used to retain fruit and subtle spice flavours. The free-run juice was barreled down to facilitate malolactic fermentation and maturation in a combination of 80% French and 20% American oak barrels (half first fill; half second fill). No sulphur was added during the production or maturation of this wine.
